About the Word to PDF tool

Word to PDF freezes your DOC or DOCX exactly as it looks on your screen, so the recipient sees the same pagination, fonts and spacing no matter which program they open it with.

Convert a Word document into a PDF that looks the same on every device and can't be accidentally edited. This is the standard step before sending a resume, contract or report to someone else.

How to convert Word to PDF

  1. 1Upload your .doc or .docx file.
  2. 2Let the converter render the document into a fixed-layout PDF.
  3. 3Download the finished PDF, ready to share or print.

Why convert a Word document to PDF

A PDF locks in your fonts, spacing and page breaks exactly as they appeared when the document left your computer, which is why so many forms, applications and printed documents are requested in PDF instead of Word. It also prevents accidental edits and displays consistently on phones, tablets and other operating systems.

Because rendering happens on our servers rather than in whatever version of Word the recipient has installed, fonts that aren't installed on their machine won't be silently swapped out, and page breaks, headers and footers stay where you placed them.

The resulting PDF is usually close in size to the original document, sometimes slightly larger if it contains embedded images or fonts. Files are transferred over an encrypted connection, no account is needed, and both the uploaded document and the converted PDF are deleted automatically after processing.

Frequently asked questions

Will my fonts look the same in the PDF?+

Yes, fonts are embedded into the PDF during conversion, so the document displays with the correct typefaces even on a computer that doesn't have those fonts installed.

Will page breaks and formatting stay in the same place?+

The converter renders the document as it was laid out in the Word file, so headings, page breaks, tables and images should appear in the same positions as the source document.

Does this work with both .doc and .docx files?+

Both the older .doc format and the newer .docx format are supported, so you don't need to convert older files first.

Will tracked changes or comments show up in the PDF?+

The PDF reflects the document as it currently displays, so it's a good idea to accept or reject tracked changes in Word beforehand if you don't want revision marks appearing.

Can I convert a Word document with images and tables?+

Yes, embedded images, tables and charts are carried over into the PDF along with the surrounding text.

Is my document kept private during conversion?+

Your file is uploaded over an encrypted connection and processed without requiring an account, and both the Word file and the resulting PDF are deleted from our servers automatically afterward.
